Eric Church "Cold One"

5 Stars*****

Could love ever be more complicated? In this case scenario just grab a cold one Eric Church describes in the rowdy, honky tonk country rock infused "Cold One". A love story gone cold, a beer in her hands and leaves the man. He's picking up the pieces and she's moving on Church sings "It was a perfect day for the end of May they say a record high I stared at that green water when out of the blue of surprise she had her feet up on the cooler as she put our love on ice. She grabbed a beer said I'm outta here and walked out of my life, that was a cold one".  You could honestly hear the bitterness in Church's vocals however a vulnerability stands in the infusion of banjo, fiddle and steel guitar with the country techno vibe. It is that combination and musicality listeners resonate with.  "Cold One" is more than a product, it is a story, one fans want to hear on country radio. What I'm hearing is a summer themed song about love gone wrong."Cold One" won't leave you cold.

A little summer romance best describes Kristen Kelly's new single "Kiss By Kiss". The mid tempo ballad has all the signs of country and rock combined. Without the over use of pop over tones Kiss By Kiss soars. Kelly's vocals have the grit and vulnerability men and women of all ages will resonate with. Fans already will fall in love all over again while new fans will emerge. Kelly best describes in the first verse. "We don't have to sit right here and map it all out. Try to figure out where we will be years from now". "We've got this old porch swing and a bottle of wine. Baby, let's take our time", she sings. A new classic of our time in country music couldn't sound sweeter. The infectious summer love ballad comes at a time when bro-country is all the hype. This is the sign of female country and Kelly delivers.

Maggie Rose  "Looking Back Now"

4 Stars ****

Such angst and rebellion can be so sweet yet charming, Maggie Rose shows her dark side in the mild mid tempo bluesy Looking Back Now. The course of doing wrong though if given the chance would do it again, sounds like a fatal attraction. Rose's captivating raw edge gives the song it's uniqueness. The vulnerable deliverance in part strikes a cord, she sings.

"They're strapping me down and I'm scared to die

Now I ain't the kind of girl to cry but I find myself begging God for mercy"

The chill sets in and soon she's asking for whiskey and a gun, if that isn't your smoking gun I don't know what is.The vibes are fueled and fired, Maggie Rose sets the tone for Looking Back Now as your not so typical country song yet pulls it off in the way listeners will know who it is singing. This not so typical approach will insiders take note.

Dylan Scott

"Makin' This Boy Go Crazy"

4 Star ****

New comer Dylan Scott has a sense of charm no lady can resist. The 22 yr.old's deep and gritty southern twang rises eyebrows on the mid tempo melodic "Makin' This Boy Go Crazy".It's catchy chorus steers smoothly flowing effortlessly through out the song.

"Oh, girl you make me feel like woah, spinnin' me out of control with every little move you're making driving me wild if you know what I'm saying, hey, should have smiled my way makin' this boy go crazy, crazy, crazy"

With the right notes in tact it is no wonder you'll feel hooked by the chorus. The repetition is endless. Scott's co-write is on the money without loosing himself through out the song.Much like his fellow male counter parts Dylan Scott is nothing by comparison. His Louisiana southern drawl yet appeal put Scott on a complete separate playing field catching the girl or is he? "Makin' This Boy Go Crazy" has the step up appeal to much other songs played on country radio. It's flirtatious vibe oozes sexiness and shear enjoyment.

Maggie Rose "Better"

5 Star *****

The story of a song truly identifies with an artist and it's quite clear Maggie Rose identifies with "Better" the story of a relationship  proved to be good that ends too soon. You feel  the emotional raw pain from Rose's vocals to the sincerity she displays of  moving on. The strength alone sounds much of a traditional country classic, a woman scorned. The beauty of Better, the interpretation of the band's musicality with Rose, the harmonies sweet yet poignant. Craig Morgan "More Trucks Than Cars"
4 Stars****

Craig Morgan delivers the honky tonk country goods,Morgan co-wrote with songwriters Craig Wiseman and Phil O'Donnell, "More Trucks Than Cars" ring true to a classic traditional country song. Generally speaking country music fans won't have to travel far for some good ole country fun, a stand out in the meshed up contemporary country pop I speak often of. None of the less "More Trucks Than Cars" proves there's a whole lot of country living left to do Morgan sings. "Pretty girl workin' at the bank and the fella toppin' off your tank knows your name/Water tower, power lines, swimming holes, rusty old RC cola signs and county fairs, raise your hands up if you've been there." Morgan unmistakeably relates to country audiences, a real man's man with a deep heart. Craig Morgan's southern twang is just as sweet earning Morgan a taste of another hit waiting in the wings.
