Thompson Square Rocks Rootstown

2015 ACM Award winner for medium market radio station WQMX Your Station! Your Country! 94.9FM in conjuction with  2014 ACM Award winner venue of the year Dusty Armadillo hosted a night of country music for the fans Friday May 15th, it was a celebration of epic proportions.  A flare for style, costume changes, fancy pyro, NO, not a chance with Thompson Square who are more low key than most would see at a live show.  Keifer and Shawna Thompson husband wife duo are laid back folks who love to have a good time and give their fans what they come for. Don't expect an hour show, they give and give a little more. The Free fan Appreciation concert began only one would image, with a toast to celebrate WQMX's ACM Award win along with ACM Award winner of the previous year the Dusty Armadillo. A round of applause for the staff and crew to WQMX and the Dusty Armadillo for their continued work and loyalty in country music is well much deserved. From in front of the scenes as much as behind the scenes takes a village and Ohio has it!  The kick off into the show Keifer and Shawna brought a no filter attitude to the stage telling the story of their first meeting in Nashville in 1996 to where they are now 16 years later celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary.Reminiscing of these 16 years these two have sparks that ignite love and passion, put in the music and you have a modern day Johnny and June. The strippped down accoustic set only consist of percussion and guitar, the professionalism was in sync. Into the show Keifer and Shawna were given congratulatory drinks on the house in celebration of their 16th wedding anniversary to celebrating country music in Ohio and began to sing the 80's hit "Celebration", and it was surely a celebration. Performing their multi-platnium hits "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not" and"Glass" from their debut album to "If I Didn't Have You", "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About" with an intro of the song with the chorus of "Hurts So Good", "Here's To Being Here", "Just Feels Good", and "Here We Go Again" Keifer and Shawna introduced new material to the set, a song they wrote with the Warren Brothers "Stuck In My Head" a more repeative, funky cool vibe approach that would easily get stuck in your head, (no pun intended). The new "Up In Smoke"takes the techno route they sing "I keep coming coming back, I keep coming coming back, I keep coming back for more. I keep coming coming back, I keep coming coming back, I keep coming back for more playing with fire, the flames are getting higher I'm going up in smoke." A new sound on a new track is risky, and I believe the risk is worth it. And without further ado "TRANS AM" the official new single out now at radio. To think there wasn't enough, Thompson Square adds the iconic classic Johnny Cash "Ring Of Fire" with a melodic twist and almost unrecognizable, yet they pull it off in fashion paying homeage to Johnny and June on their 16th wedding anniversary to Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried". It was however the Nirvana hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit" that had the crowd roaring and mesmerized by Shawna's vocals, tight, crisp and clear belts it out of the ball park. From the classics of country to grunge and modern country today Thompson Square showcase real authenticity. With their highly anticipated 3rd album coming later this year Thompson Square isn't going away any time soon.
